介詞on, in, under用法詳解
一、介詞on的用法
英語中，有些介詞或介詞短語，常用來表示運用，在句中充當表語、定語、關語或賓語補足語。在大多數情況下，表示主動意義，有時也表示被動意義，其中用得最活躍，最廣泛的介詞是on。現歸納如下：
1、表示主動意義的情況：
（1）on的后面接非動作名詞或不及物意義的動作名詞，如：
The student on duty come to the classroom very early this morning. 值日的那個學生今天一早就來到了教室。
The workers were on strike. 工人們在罷工。
（2）on后面接動名詞時，常作狀語，相當于as soon as…引導的時間狀語從句，如：
On reading the letter(= As soon as he read the letter), he found that a servant of the family in France had been put in prison, though no fault of his own. 一看完信，他就知道他法國家里的一個仆人無辜地被關進了監獄。
On his arrival in Paris(= When he arrived in Paris), he was recognized as a noble and thrown into prison. 他一到達巴黎，立即被人認為是貴族，因而被投進了監獄。
（3）on + the + 動詞轉化來的名詞，表示一個正在進行的動作。如：
Keep the kettle on the boil.(= boiling)讓壺里的水開著。
2、表示被動意義的情況
on后面接具有及物意義的動作名詞時，通常表示被動意義。如：
Color TV sets are on sale here.這里在出售彩電。
The flowers on show are from the public garden.正在展出的那些花是從公園里運來的。
二、介詞in的用法
1、動詞+in
（1）動詞+ in
believe in信任 break in碎成 bring in引起；產生；帶來 call in下令收回，fill in填充 get in收獲 hand in上繳 involve in涉及，lie in在于 result in導致 share in共享 succeed in成功，take in卷起；訂閱 turn in歸還當局。
（2）動詞+sb./time/money+ in
help sb. in幫助某人做某事 spare time/money in勻出時間或錢做某事，spend time/money in花時間或錢做某事 waste time/money in浪費時間或錢做某事。
2、be +形容詞+ in
be active in活躍于 be absorbed in專心致志 be busy in忙碌be born in出生于 be concerned in牽涉 be clothed in穿著be disappointed in對…失望 be diligent in勤于be experienced in在…有經驗 be employed in任職于be engaged in忙碌 be expert in某方面的專家 be excellent in在…優秀be interested in對…有興趣 be lacking in缺乏be rich in富有 be slow in遲緩 be successful in在某方面成功be skilled in精于 be strict in嚴于 be weak in弱于。
3. in +名詞
in advance提前 in all總共 in balance總而言之in bed臥床 in body親自 in brief簡明扼要in case萬一 in charge主管 in danger有危險in debt負債 in despair失望 in force大量地；有效in full全部地 in flower開花 in general一般說來in itself本身 in love戀愛 in order井然有序in person親自 in public公開地 in progress有進展in practice從實踐上看 in rags穿著破衣 in research探索in return作為報答 in ruins一片廢墟 in short總之in theory從理論上看 in trouble有麻煩 in tears眼淚汪汪in time及時 in turn按順序 in vain白白地 in view看得見
三、介詞under的用法
1、用作介詞，基本義為“在……下”。如：under the table（在桌下），under the bed（在床下），under the tree（在樹下）等。
注意：under在很多情況下含義較抽象。如：
under [in] the circumstances 在這些情況下
under present conditions 在目前情況下
under sb＇s leadership 在某人的領導下
under one＇s direction 在某人的指導下
under the care of……在某人的照顧下
under one＇s control 在某人的控制下
2、有時英語雖然用了介詞under, 但在漢語中卻并不譯為“在……下”。
如：
He wore a vest under his jacket. 他在夾克里穿了件背心。
I was under the impression that he was honest, but infact he was a thief. 我認為他很誠實，但實際上他是個賊。
注意：有時后接某些具有動作意義的名詞，表示“在……中”。如：
under discussion（在討論中），under repair（在修繕中），under construction（在建設中），under consideration（在考慮中）等。
3、在很多情況下漢語中“在……下”并不能用英語的under來套譯。如：
（1）表示在某人的幫助下，一般用介詞 with。如：
He got back his wallet with the help of the police. 在警察的幫助下，他找回了自己的錢包。
（2）表示在(太)陽光下，一般用介詞 in。
如：
Don＇t read in the sun. 不要在陽光下看書。
The cat likes to sit in the sun. 貓喜歡坐在陽光下（即曬太陽）。
注意：若要強調“太陽直射”或“炎熱”，有時也用 under。如：
under the burning sun of midsummer 在盛夏的灼熱陽光下
成語 under the sun, 不是指在太陽下，而是指“天下”“世上”等。如：
It＇s the best wine under the sun. 這是世上最好的酒。
（3）表示借光做某事，一般用介詞 by。如：
He worked by the light of a candle. 他在燭光下工作。
